Birding Trip with Steve Kelling from Team eBird in Tarifa

We had a really fun birding day in Tarifa with Steve Kelling from Team eBird – Cornell Lab of Ornithology. 86 species in mid June is a good number for Tarifa and surroundings. We could show Steve a pair of Spanish Imperial Eagles, a spectacular breeding Squacco Heron, Rufous-tailed Scrub-Robin and a few Tawny Pipits, like this fresh juvenile stretching on top of a clump of snails – a regular sight of Andalucian summers.

We also visited the Northern Bald Ibis colony, where some young ones are starting to fledge. This could be a good year for the breeding of this critically endangered species in the Strait of Gibraltar.
