It contains a full description of the itinerary, with pictures taken during the trip. It also has an annotated list of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects! On this post we mention some of the highlights of this trip.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2647\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2647\" style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2647 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PA081046_N.jpg\" alt=\"Eleonora's Falcon seen during a Birding Northern Morocco trip - by Yeray Seminario\" width=\"960\" height=\"641\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2647\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Juvenile Eleonora&#8217;s Falcon flying near the breeding colony during our Birding Northern Morocco trip<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Birding Northern Morocco\u00a0<b>highlights<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>We found one of the targets, and in good numbers, almost right out of the plane. Seeing up to 11 <b>African Royal Terns<\/b>, a species recently split from the American Royal Tern, was certainly a highlight.<\/li>\n<li>We got phenomenal views of one of the main targets of the trip: the <strong>Lanner Falcon<\/strong>. We had two adult <b>Lanner Falcons<\/b> at pleasure in our scopes, and also got great views of the birds in flight. That same morning we saw 2 <strong>Great Bustards<\/strong> from the last surviving population in Africa.<\/li>\n<li>Seeing up to nine <b>Marsh Owls<\/b> at dusk near the Merja Zerga Lagoon was certainly one of the best moments of the tour.<\/li>\n<li>The boat trip at Merja Zerga lagoon and the visit to a <b>Eleonora\u2019s Falcon<\/b> colony provided excellent views and photography opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>The Za\u00ebr Forest was productive after some work. We ended up seeing our three targets on site: <b>Barbary Partridge<\/b>, <b>Double-spurred Francolin <\/b>and <b>Black-crowned Tchagra<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>The visit to the old Roman city of Volubilis<b> <\/b>was a welcome addition to the trip.<\/li>\n<li>A couple of <b>Levaillant\u2019s Woodpeckers <\/b>provided some of the best experiences of the trip at Dayet Aoua.<\/li>\n<li>We heard and saw the recently split\u00a0<b>Maghreb Wood Owl<\/b>, closely related to the\u00a0<strong>Tawny Owl<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/ebird.org\/spain\/view\/checklist\/S49106376\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">You can hear a recording of this bird here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Zaida Plains provided a welcome change of scenery. Here we found some desert specialties including one of our main targets: the <b>Dupont\u2019s Lark<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The most remarkable highlight of the Birding Northern Morocco trip was hitting all the targets while having a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. And let\u2019s not forget the abundant and good food!
